We attended the Mack Parks Charity Event at Steamboat on Tuesday May 6, 2003. The event was put together by Angelique Solis (below) in less than three weeks, and she was able to get many bands to donate their time and play. All proceeds raised went directly to Mack Parks.

Mack was an EMT in Waco 15 years ago when the ambulance he was riding in was broadsided, breaking his neck. Mack is now a quadriplegic and got a settlement of a mere $15,000. This heroic former public servant now subsists on SSI, Medicaid and Medicare. Mack was starving to death last year as his intestines could no longer process food. The nerve graft surgery Mack required was performed by a Washington DC neurosurgeon in Ecuador. FDA approval and insurance requirements precluded this type of surgery in the States. Mackís friends and his church raised the $30,000 needed for the surgery in 7 weeks time. Mack and his friend Gordon Kane left for Ecuador on Feb.28th and his surgery was done on March 3rd. In fact, the neurosurgeon was able to perform 6 surgeries on Mack in the 3 weeks that he was there. Mack returned home March 22nd able to eat again and stand for 10 minutes at a time for the first time in 15 years. Fundraising efforts continue for Mack's additional medical needs. Mack and his mother require a new mobile home to live in as well as a new handicap van and these $2000.00 special handmade medical boot
